Diabetes
It is one of the most common diseases in the Netherlands: diabetes. When you are told you have diabetes, it is best to make immediate lifestyle changes. This will have many positive effects immediately. Adjusting diet and increasing exercise bring immediate improvements, which you can measure by your blood sugar levels. That way you can try to avoid needing medication. Because the more medication, the more side effects. And . you don’t solve the problem with it!
Chronic illness
Diabetes, also known as “diabetes,” is a chronic metabolic disease in which there is too much sugar in your blood. Your body struggles to maintain blood sugar levels. Two forms can be identified here: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. In the latter form, type 2 diabetes, an unhealthy lifestyle is often the cause. These include obesity, alcohol, smoking, stress, unhealthy diet and little exercise.
Type 1
Type 1 diabetes falls under the so-called autoimmune diseases. Even in that case, good improvements can be obtained through lifestyle modification. As a result, insulin use can usually be (drastically) reduced, ensuring that there will be fewer additional health risks. Type 1 diabetes can have many causes. It takes us too far to go into that now. But should you be struggling with this and still want to see how you can improve the situation, a consultation is recommended. That way I can advise you and explain what would be helpful in your situation.
Features
There are several characteristics by which you can recognize diabetes. These are:
– you often feel tired
– You have to urinate (excessively) often
– you are very thirsty in the process
– you often have a dry mouth
– You have frequent eye infections or blurred vision
– you lose weight
– you suffer from (urinary tract) infections
Do you recognize yourself in several points? Then it is wise to do something about this in a timely manner. Of course it’s good to see your doctor. In addition, consider what you yourself can do to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Even if you have been given medication, you can often quickly (drastically) reduce or even stop it.
Treatment options
If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you will be offered several treatments. Possible treatments include medication in the form of tablets or injecting insulin. When you are very sick, this is also important. But often you can make great strides by modifying your lifestyle, in some situations even to the point where medication no longer appears necessary.
A healthier life
Therefore, your goal is to naturally maintain normal sugar levels. Sufficient exercise and a carefully formulated diet are essential in this regard. Specifically, this means avoiding fast sugars in your diet and limiting carbohydrate intake to starch from legumes, for example. While doing so, do eat enough protein and fats, which help with stable blood glucose (sugar levels). A reduction in medication may perhaps be on the horizon for you now, but even if you are on continued medication, this lifestyle is the way to greatly increase your health.
About BodySwitch
From my BodySwitch-practice in Heemskerk I, Frank Jonkers, like to offer you tools to feel better in your body and head. I know myself what it is. At one time, I weighed 135 pounds and had incipient diabetes and cardiovascular disease, which is a common complication of this. Now I’m core healthy – which, by the way, is also the title of my book that includes a roadmap for reversing diabetes. Also, based on your problem and desire, I can tailor a step-by-step plan and give advice on what will benefit you and your body. That roadmap consists of the nutrition that works best for you and targeted nutritional supplementation to get the body’s processes back on track. In this way, you can slowly feel more energetic and fit again, health problems can gradually subside, and medication can often be reduced or stopped by mutual agreement and in a responsible manner. See you in my practice? I wish you very good health!
