Autoimmune diseases: treating healthily from the cause
The number of people with autoimmune diseases is increasing. A large proportion of people face it at some point in their lives. Common autoimmune diseases include psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, Colitis Ulcerosa, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and type 1 diabetes. In doing so, women are at greater risk than men of developing an autoimmune disease. It is usually said that syndromes involving autoimmunity are determined by hereditary factors. Those can come into play, but always environmental factors are main determinants. These are factors such as diet, toxins and environmental pollution and infection by bacteria and viruses.
What is an autoimmune disease?
First of all: autoimmune diseases are said to be syndromes in which the immune system reacts negatively to or attacks its own tissues. Autoimmune diseases are the most common chronic diseases. Complaints often involve muscles, joints, skin and internal organs. Often the disease arises suddenly later in life, leaving us puzzled: where did your symptoms come from anyway? Your immune system will never attack your own body out of the blue. There will always be triggering factors. The trick is to detect those very factors. We do this through specialized lab tests.
Solving the riddle
That it is not easy to solve this riddle is not your fault. Because in most cases, a diagnosis is easily made where medication can be used. But in so doing, we lose sight of the cause of your symptoms. Too bad, because there is just so much to gain there! What you need for it to discover the causes of your disease is time and specialized lab tests aimed at finding out the causes. Often, lack of time and treatment focused on symptom management is the reason that causes are not identified.
Not an average patient
As an attending specialist, I regularly see people facing such a situation. They feel sick, and would like to explore what the source of that is. In situations like this, you have to look specifically at each patient’s situation. Because protocols in medicine are based on the average patient. But there is no such thing as an average patient. There are always unique circumstances and every patient is unique. That’s why I think it’s very important to make enough time so you can tell your story, including all the important information we can use for a plan that will help you feel better.
Environmental factors
For example, has your diet, status of your intestines and environment? Of course, genes play a role in how your body develops. But environmental factors greatly influence how genes develop and where they derail. An illness, then, can be seen as a physical signal that something is wrong with how we treat our bodies. I regularly lecture on this topic, and still often am fascinated by how quickly so-called “chronic diseases” can be reversed or reversed. Because when you map out what it is that makes us sick, you can actually start doing something about it.
Good health as the only side effect
At BodySwitch, we work with an integrative treatment approach. This means that together we identify and address the cause of (disease) processes, rather than just suppressing the signals. To do this, I use specialized laboratory tests (including blood and stool samples). Based on the results of the analysis, we draw up a personal treatment plan aimed at addressing the causes so that your
body
becomes fitter and stronger. Because if we nourish our bodies properly and get rid of bad substances, the body can recover as best it can. This approach has no negative side effects and is suitable for everyone. The only side effect is better health and more energy!
